Frequently Asked Questions

This is a general guide only and may not address your specific site conditions. If you are not experienced with this type of work, hire a qualified contractor.

K-Style vs Half-Round - which should I choose?

K-Style Gutters are the modern standard - they hold more water, mount flush to fascia, and cost less. Half Round Gutters offer traditional aesthetics for historic homes and upscale architecture, with smoother flow that reduces debris buildup, but require special bracket hangers and cost more.

What's the difference between 5-Inch and 6-Inch Gutters?

5-Inch Gutters handle most residential roofs up to 2,500 sq ft. 6-Inch Gutters are for larger roofs, steep pitches, or commercial buildings. The 6-Inch provides 70% more water capacity but requires larger Downspouts and costs more.

What size Downspouts do I need?

5-Inch Gutters typically use 2x3" Downspouts (3x4" for problem areas). 6-Inch Gutters require 3x4" Downspouts. Half Round Gutters use Round Downspouts - 3" for 5-Inch Gutters, 4" for 6-Inch Gutters. Install one Downspout per 30-40 feet of Gutter.

What type of Hangers do these gutters require?

K-Style Gutters use Hidden Hangers that clip inside - space them 24" on-center (18" in snow/wind areas). Half Round Gutters require special brackets mounted to the fascia, spaced 30" on-center maximum.

Will standard Gutter Guards fit these profiles?

Our Gutter Guards are designed specifically for each profile. K-Style Guards fit K-Style Gutters, Half Round Guards fit Half Round Gutters. Both install without penetrating the Gutter bottom.

Can I get matching accessories for all styles?

Yes, we stock complete systems for both profiles. K-Style: Miters, End Caps, Outlets - all available in 20+ matching colors. Half Round, available in white and brown: End Caps, Outlets, Decorative brackets.

Which profile handles leaves and debris better?

Half Round Gutters naturally shed debris better due to their smooth shape. K-Style Gutters have corners where debris can accumulate but handle more water volume. Both benefit from Gutter Guards in heavy tree coverage.

How do I calculate material needs?

Measure total roofline, add 10% for waste. Most homes need 150-200 feet. Don't forget: Downspouts (one per 30-40'), Hangers/Brackets, End Caps (2 per run), Outlets (1 per downspout), and Miters for corners.

What about thermal expansion?

Aluminum expands/contracts with temperature. For runs over 40 feet, use expansion joints. Leave 1/8" gaps at joints in summer, 1/4" in winter. Our slip joints accommodate movement while maintaining seal.

What's your warranty and return policy?

20-year warranty on materials and finish. Returns accepted within 30 days in original condition (15% restocking fee). Custom colors and cut lengths are non-returnable. Document shipping damage within 48 hours.

More About Our Rain Gutters

Professional Rain Gutters - K-Style and Half Round Systems

Specialty Building Products offers complete Aluminum Gutter Systems in both K-Style and Half-Round profiles, engineered for professional contractors who demand consistency and reliability. Available in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes, our K-Style Gutters are roll-formed from premium .032" gauge aluminum coil stock, and our Half Round Gutters are formed from .027" gauge aluminum - ensuring uniform dimensions that speed installation and eliminate callbacks.

K-Style Gutters - The Industry Standard

Our K-Style Gutters feature the popular ogee profile that complements modern architecture while providing superior water capacity. The flat back mounts flush to fascia boards, while the decorative front face adds architectural detail. Hidden Hangers clip securely into the front bead, creating a clean appearance with no visible fasteners. K-Style Gutters handle more water than equivalent half-round sizes, making them ideal for regions with heavy rainfall.

Half Round Gutters - Traditional Elegance

Half Round Gutters deliver timeless appeal for historic restorations and upscale residential projects. The smooth, curved profile promotes better water flow and naturally sheds debris more effectively than K-Style. While they require special bracket hangers and hold slightly less water than K-Style, Half Round Gutters remain the preferred choice for traditional architecture and custom homes where aesthetics are paramount.

Complete System Components

Both Gutter profiles come with full accessory lines. K-Style systems include Inside and Outside Miters (Box and Strip), End Caps, Outlets, and Hidden Hangers. Half Round Systems feature decorative brackets, End Caps with crimp or rivet attachment, Outlets, and Round Downspouts. All K-style components are available in 20 standard colors with perfect batch-to-batch consistency.

Our aluminum alloy 3105-H24 provides optimal strength and workability. The material maintains its shape under snow loads while remaining formable for field modifications. Our durable baked-on enamel carries a 20-year warranty against peeling, chipping, and excessive fading.
