Installation & Maintenance Tips
This installation information is a general guide only and may not address your specific site conditions. Always follow local building codes, safety practices, and professional methods. If you are not experienced with this type of work, hire a qualified contractor.
Installation
- Inspect and prep: Clean gutters and downspouts; confirm proper slope and secure hangers. Repair loose spikes, ferrules, or brackets.
- Plan layout: Dry-fit a few panels to confirm fit to 5 in K-style profile and to identify splice and corner locations.
- Measure and cut: Cut panels to length with snips or a fine-tooth blade. Deburr cut ends. Keep perforation rows aligned run-to-run.
- Seat back edge: Position the panel so the back sealing profile compresses along the back of the gutter (or against the drip edge per site detail). Maintain a straight line.
- Fasten front edge: Pre-drill if needed and fasten the front edge through the top front bead using aluminum or stainless pan-head screws. Typical spacing 16–24 in on center. Do not overdrive.
- Continue the run: Butt panel ends with a small gap for thermal movement. Keep perforations straight and level. Do not silicone over the perforations or movement gaps.
- Corners and terminations: Miter inside and outside corners for a neat fit. Keep the back seal engaged along the corner detail. Secure the front edge with screws at each corner.
- Obstructions: Scribe and cut neatly around spikes, brackets, or miters. Maintain the back seal and re-secure the front edge.
- Final check and test: Confirm panels are secure, flat, and aligned. Hose-test to verify free drainage at outlets and that water remains inside the gutter.
Maintenance
- Seasonal rinse: Hose off dust and pollen as needed. Avoid abrasive pads and close-range pressure tips.
- Visual check: Inspect after major leaf drops or storms; remove any large debris sitting on top.
- Fasteners: Annually check front-edge screws; snug or replace with stainless/aluminum if corroded. Do not overdrive.
- Adjacent systems: Keep downspouts clear and verify outlet strainers or elbows are free of obstructions.

Micro-Perforated Aluminum Gutter Guard vs Alternatives
Gutter Clean-style Micro-Perforated Aluminum vs Expanded Metal Screens
Micro-Perforated Aluminum: Higher drainage with finer debris blocking; screw-fastened front; back seal helps keep water inside the gutter.
Expanded screens: Larger openings pass more debris; many require periodic removal for cleaning; can flex or collapse under snow loads.
Micro-Perforated Aluminum vs Foam Inserts/Brushes
Micro-Perforated Aluminum: Non-absorptive, long service life, 25-year anti-clog warranty.
Foam/Brush: Can trap fines and organic growth; may require frequent removal and cleaning.
Best choice: Use Micro-Perforated Aluminum Guards like this for existing 5" K-style gutters where you want durable, screw-fastened protection with strong water handling and a long clog-free warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
This is a general guide only and may not address your specific site conditions. If you are not experienced with this type of work, hire a qualified contractor.
Will this fit in 6" gutters?
This model is designed for 5-in K-style gutters. Ask for the 6-in compatible model if you have oversize gutters.
How does it handle heavy rain?
Independent tests show drainage of 29.7 inches of water per hour through the micro-perforations when installed correctly.
Do I need to remove it for seasonal cleaning?
No. It is designed to stay in place year-round. Brush or hose off the top surface if debris accumulates.
What screws should I use?
Use aluminum or stainless pan-head screws at the front bead; do not overdrive. Follow the manufacturer’s spacing guidance.
Is it safe in snow and ice?
Yes. Snow and ice remain on top so gutters can drain during warm-ups. The screw-fastened front and back seal help keep the product in place.
